september wakes denali’s snow up. restless and hungry after a summer confined to the summits, winter starts a slow descent towards lower heights. to welcome it, alaska’s plants dress their fall in a progression of tints that paint otherworldly landscapes over the same mountainsides that not long ago were green. for a few weeks, before the cold swallows their withered colors, the scene explodes in ever-evolving tones that empty nature’s warm palette before the nine white months ahead.
as a frosty silence comes to settle by the river, the forest and the campground that lies between them, i capture fleeting glimpses of changing shades in the autumn cloak that covers everything in sight.
in this series, time’s quick pace is at the center of each photograph, bathing denali national park in unparalelled variations of gold and red. it aims at taking the viewer on a voyage to a land where wild colors merge together in silent landscapes, nature meets few traces of civilization’s long fingers, and human presence becomes an alien element in its midst.
